How to type Ukrainian with English letters

  1. Keep Keyboard Type on English – QWERTY. It is already selected on this page; switch to Ukrainian – Enhanced any time to type with the Ukrainian layout instead.
  2. Type the word as it sounds. Use plain English letters, without accents – for example dobryi den. A list of Ukrainian words appears under the cursor.

English to Ukrainian typing or the Enhanced keyboard?

English-letter typing (also called transliteration or phonetic typing) is the quickest way to start: there is no new layout to learn, so it suits messages, posts and short texts. The Ukrainian – Enhanced layout puts every Ukrainian letter on its own key. It takes a few weeks to learn, but it is faster for long texts and is what most typing exams and offices use – practise it with the Ukrainian typing tutor.
